Try to anticipate the type of on-ramp as far in advance as possible. Check the length of the on-ramp, the speed of the vehicles in front of you and the speed of the traffic on the freeway.

DOUBLE MERGE LANES

Busy freeways also use a double merge lane. This allows vehicles to fill both lanes to the traffic signal and then narrows to one lane as vehicles approach freeway speeds.
